Executive Board Biographies
Tim Nuse, Chair
Tim became involved in the 34th District as a member of the Get
Out the Vote and Voter Registration Committees. He graduated from
Pacific Lutheran University with degrees in Geoscience and Environmental
Affairs. He spent some time as a campus organizer at UMass in Amherst
for the Massachusetts Public Interest Research Group and taught
a course on community organizing. He worked at the first Starbucks
store in the Pike Place Market and now works in the Environmental

LeeAnne Beres, Secretary
LeeAnne is the Executive Director of Earth Ministry and has 20 years
experience working at the intersection of politics and the environment. Prior to coming to Earth Ministry, she was the Associate Director
for Save Our Wild Salmon, Outreach Director of the NW
Energy Coalition, and a national field organizer for the Marine Fish Conservation Network, Greenpeace and various issue and candidate
campaigns. She also survived two years working as a biologist on commercial fishing boats in the Bering Sea. LeeAnne has served on the
boards of the Washington Environmental Council (VP for Membership) and Washington Council of Trout Unlimited, and is currently on the
Executive Board of the NW Energy Coalition. She is active in her West Seattle church, Fauntleroy
United Church of Christ, where she has volunteered on the Church Council, Outreach Ministry Board, and Green Committee. LeeAnne has a
Master’s degree in Marine Fisheries Management from the University of Washington and Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Whitman College.
She and her husband Ken live in the Alaska Junction, where LeeAnne is the PCO for SEA 34-1458.
Marcee Stone, State Committeewoman
Marcee is a PCO for precinct 1457. She has been a resident of West Seattle and White Center most of her life. A passionate advocate for public campaign financing, she is the Board President of Washington Public Campaigns, a statewide organization. She became involved with the 34th in 2004 and became King County Committeewoman of the 34th in late 2007. She is a homeowner in the Junction, a legal word processor at a national law firm, helps put her daughter through Evergreen State College, and is a golden retriever owner. She is committed to continuing to make the 34th the best district in the state and electing many democrats. She will be participating on the Resolutions Committee of the State Central Committee.

Jeff Upthegrove, Treasurer
Jeff was born and raised in the 34th District and has been involved in local political campaigns and social activism for over 20 years. Prior to becoming active in the 34th District organization, Jeff was involved with a number of anti-war and citizen government groups, including WashPIRG and Global Action Seattle. He is presently the PCO of precinct 34-0465. Jeff has been a self-employed entrepreneur for 13 years and is President of a small wireless technology company in Burien, where he lives with his family.

Steve Butts, Outreach Chair
Steve's first experience in politics came in 1970 while in high school, campaigning for the WA State "Vote 19" Amendment that would have lowered the state voting age, and has yet to miss an election. Born and raised in Hoquiam WA, he met his wife, Karen, while attending Central Washington University where they both earned degrees in Fine Art. They have a grown son. Moving to West Seattle in 1977, Steve started work life as a graphic designer. Since 1991 he has been self-employed, providing graphic and drafting support to the electronics industry. He is currently the PCO for precinct 1539 in Arbor Heights.
Tamsen Spengler, Diversity Chair PCO for Precinct #1484. Married to a West Seattleite, Dan Spengler. I've lived in West Seattle for 30 years. Have two children and four grandchildren. Graduated from Bellevue High School. Have a BA degree in Urban Planning/Environmental Sciences from Western Washington University. Currently employed by the City of Seattle, Human Services Dept. as a Senior Contract Specialist. Previously worked in social services and medical fields.
Member of MOCA, volunteer for Senior Services and the City of Seattle's EASE program. Vice-president of membership for Toastmasters City Toasters club. Tamsen is also a member of the National Women's Political Caucus of Washington.

Walter Sive, Finance Chair
Walter has been involved in progressive politics for most of his life. He first got involved in party politics with the candidacy of Bill Bradley, when at the close of Bradley's campaign Bradley urged all volunteers to become active in the Democratic party. Walter has served as King County Committeeman, as Vice Chair and for the last six years as finance chair. Walter has served on several non-profit boards and currently is on the Board of the Olympic Park Institute. By day, he is a finance executive at Group Health.

Brian Earl, By-Laws Chair
Brian is a former chair of the 34th District Democrats and has identified
himself as a Democrat since 1980. He is an attorney presently employed
by the Graphics Communications Union Local 767 M. Brian is married
to Sarah, our Treasurer. He and Sarah have lived in West Seattle
since 1998 when they moved here from Portland, Oregon.

Bill has been building and maintaining the 34th's website www.34dems.org since January, 2002. Bill and his spouse Kathy have lived in West Seattle since 1978, have three adult daughters and one very-recent granddaughter. Bill's day job is Chief Technology Officer for the City of Seattle.
