Participants in this plan: Sarah Earl, Ivan Weiss, Tim Nuse, Jackie Dupras, Steve Karbowski, Tanya Aguilar, Greg Doss
1. Outreach to Community Organizations with Educational Forums as a Draw
Proposed Educational Forums - Sarah will work with Ivan and Tim to nail this down.
(a) Alternative Energy Targeted for July – Tim to Lead. Thinking about changing the forum and doing it at the White Center Community Center on Jubiliee Days.
(b) Second Forum Targeted ?????- Tim to Lead Possible topics need to be vetted by the board and LAC but could include the Education/WASL or Highline Annexation
Publicity:
- Need a date and flyers-Sarah to work with Tim and Ivan
- Ad in the West Seattle Herald-Ivan, Greg and Walter
- Hygiene Project - Will include blurb on education forum
- Notices in South Seattle community college and meet student leaders including minority caucuses-Greg
Organizations:
- Young Democrats-Tim
- High Schools Post Notice and Meet Leaders and perhaps Political Science teachers (Sealth, West Seattle and Vashon)-Beth
- Vashon Democrats-Sarah with help from Ivan
- Food banks-Tim and Beth
- That organization Beth knows around her corner-Megawatts
- Latino organizations that we don’t know and Tanya does.
Churches
- UCC Fauntelory and Alki-Sarah
- St. John’s Episcopal-Steve
- Holy names-Sarah (new PCO that Ivan knows) and Holy Rosary
- Unitarians-Sarah to contact Peggy Abby
Unions-Get the word out about the forum-Brian
Volunteer Corp.-Steve-May 13th is the next chore services. Two projects.
2. Community Festivals Concentrating on Events We Have Booths or High Visibility
Publish Dates and get them on the website
- West Seattle Street Fair-Sarah will take lead
- Farmers Market-Jackie will take lead-
- Jubilee Days-Steve and Tanya will take lead
- Camp Long Arts and Music-Sarah will take lead
- Strawberry Parade Vashon-Ivan/Sarah to get volunteer
- Burien 4th of July Parade-Steve to lead or find someone.
- Hi Yu-Greg
Festiaval Logistics
- Make sure we have buttons-Beth
- Make sure we have a flower-Sarah
- Need a blurb on what we do available at each festival-Jackie
3. Membership/Volunteer Drive-Steve
Do this right before the picnic. June
Call machinists to see if we can use their phone bank-Brian
Concentrate on former members and caucus (2004 & 2006) attendees.
Jackie will provide the list.
4. Fun Events and Other Actions
Steps and actions necessary to accomplish this with a goal to increase diversity will be determined by a the larger outreach committee.
