Outreach Committee - May 2005
Outreach Event on Alki
The 43rd Clean & Green event on Alki this morning was a big success
with over 90 volunteers, making it the largest of it's kind. Lara-Anne,
Richard Bartlett, and I spent the morning picking up cigarette butts
and the occasional cup and talking with many people. Some of the
highlights were speaking with Mayor Nickels, Natasha from the Alki
Community Council, Adam, who is working to fund the replacement
of the Statue of Liberty, and Ron Harris who is managing the Clean
& Green program for the Mayor. Jackie Dupras' palm cards were a
great idea and we handed out many of them and the membership forms.
The shirts provided great exposure for us and the Mayor even recognized
that we were at White Center as well. Congratulations to everyone
for a great day in the 34th!

Outreach Committee Report - May 2005
General Discussion: Lara-Anne gave an update on the T-shirts.
They will be ready during the meeting. This is very exciting since
now people will know who we are when we are out and about this summer.
The shirts are for sale. Please let Sarah or Lara-Anne know if you
want one.
We need more PCO?s to be appointed on Wednesday so that they can
participate in the nominating process later in the year.
White Center clean-up and Alki this weekend.
Bowling on June 4th. Details to be announced later.
Update on Project #1
Engage the PCO?s to contact people in their precincts by walking,
holding a house party, hosting a block party, or some other event.
It was decided that we will create a packet on one subject only.
It was the consensus of the group that this should be social security.
We will present this to board for approval at the next E-board meeting.
Steve will start creating the list of PCO?s to contact. He has found
about 8 people to help. Hopefully, if we divided the PCO?s up, we
can provide support on an on-going basis over the next few years.
Update on Project #2
Communicty Activities-Tanya presented a list. There are still some
openings for people to take lead. Lara-Anne and Ivan offered to
sell these open positions to the body on Wednesday to see if we
can get the slots filled.
Update on Proejct #3
Community Organizations-Tim is still in the process of compiling
a list, but it is clear we need more help from people who can be
the primary contact. We will add this to the list that Lara-Anne
and Ivan will present. We added on project to this committee. It
involves reaching out to more isolated people who may be interested
in writing letters. Mary will work with our new friend Sam and take
lead on this project.
