Two 34th District Democrats are going to the National Convention
Nick Bordner, Obama Delegate to the Democratic National ConventionChris Porter and Nick Bordner, from the 34th District, were among seven Obama delegates elected from the 7th Congressional District to become delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Denver in August. Chris, the Precinct Committee Officer for Seattle Preinct 1520, and Nick, 18, a senior at Vashon High School, survived a rigorous delegate selection process in a long, long day at the 7th Congressional District Caucus Saturday, May 17 at North Seattle Community College. Chris Porter, Obama Delegate to the Democratic National Convention

At the end of the first round of balloting, only one Obama delegate, Jayron Finan from the 46th District, had the necessary majority to be elected. The remaining top vote-getters faced off for the six remaining spots. Obama Delegate David Ginsberg, from the 34th, was eliminated in a coin toss.

Delegates elected from the 7th CD were:

Hillary Clinton Delegates:
•   David Kunselman (43rd District),
•   Elizabeth Willmott (46th District)

Barack Obama Delegates:
•   Majid Al-Bahadli (43rd District),
•   Nicolas Bordner (34th District),
•   Jayron Finan (46th District),
•   Jennifer Hauseman (43rd District),
•   Helen Howell (11th District),
•   Suzan Levine (36th District),
•   Chris Porter (34th District)

Barack Obama Alternate:
•   David Valdez (43rd District)

In the Clinton sub-caucus, 34th District PCO Kimber McCreery (SEA 34-1470) was the No.2 vote getter among female delegates. The top male vote getter in the Obama sub-caucus was Majid Al-Bahadli from the 43rd district, an Iraqi-American whose message of peace and reconciliation should resonate in Denver.

The 34th District should be proud of all our delegates in both sub-caucuses. They all presented well and represented the District with distinction. All the Obama delegates supported Chris and Nick in the final round of balloting, which no doubt was instrumental to their success. For us to have two delegates out of only seven for the entire Congressional District is quite significant. But that is because of the solidarity that our delegates showed.

If we can retain that solidarity in all our work going forward, the future of the 34th District Democrats will be bright indeed.

General Plan for the Caucus
Washington State will have both a set of party caucuses and a Presidential Primary in 2008. But the Democratic Party will use only the caucues to select delegates for the Democratic National 2008 Convention to choose our candidate for the Presidential Election. There will be a number of caucus locations in the 34th District. The caucus locations and process will be posted on this page as the information becomes available.
The Washington State Democratic Central Committee met in Bellingham on April 28, 2007, and by an overwhelming margin (119-42), they voted to use caucuses to select our next Presidential Nominee. Washington's Precinct Caucus will be held on February 9th, 2008. The caucuses are a grassroots process where Democrats meet together and decide which candidate should lead us through the election. By choosing the caucuses Washington State Democrats made a statement that we are a Party driven by grassroots activism.
