34th LD Caucus
•   Mount View Elementary School 10811 12th Ave SW, in White Center, starting at 1:00 PM.
•   Wondering what happened to the Precinct Caucuses? The Washington State Democrats voted to eliminate the 2010 Precinct Caucuses because of the cost and lack of attendance in past years. Precinct Caucuses in presidential election years, when votes are cast for presidential preference, have been very well attended, as they certainly will be in 2012, but the off-year precinct caucuses have not.
•   So this year, we will bypass the Precinct and go directly to the Legislative District Caucus. Channeling our resources into one Caucus should make for a more energetic 34th Legislative District Caucus. The main business of the off-year Precinct Caucuses is to elect delegates to the King County Convention and to the Legislative District Caucus where delegates to the State Convention are elected.
•   At the District Caucus, you do not need to be a delegate at the precinct level to be elected as delegate to the State Convention, but in previous years only delegates could vote. The only real difference this year is that any Democrat registered to vote in the 34th District may vote at the caucus as well as be elected a delegate. If you are unable to attend the caucus, you may not vote, but you may be considered for election as delegate to the Washington State Convention by signing a statement saying that you are registered to vote in the 34th District, you are a Democrat and willing to be known as a Democrat, and that they are willing to serve if elected. This statement must be received by the District Chair, Tim Nuse, before the caucus begins on March 14.
•   The number of delegates each district is allotted is based on the turnout for Democrats in the 2008 election. The 34th District is allotted 35 delegates and 18 alternates. These will be divided equally among men and women. The 35th delegate will be the person of either sex who has more votes. In addition to electing delegates, platform items and resolutions will be collected. These will be consolidated with resolutions and platform items from other districts by the Resolutions and Platform Committees and voted on at both the King County Convention and the Washington State Convention.
•   The King County Convention will be held on Saturday, April 10 at 10:00 a.m. at the Aerospace Machinists Hall, 9125 15th Pl S. The State Convention will be held in Vancouver, Washington on June 26. The State Convention will be held on Saturday, June 26 in Vancouver, Washington.
