Vashon Democrats Open MicUpdated June 15, 2007
Vashon Democrats: Political Open Mic, Night!
Do you have a burning desire to tell your friends and neighbors what you think of a particular presidential candidate? Is there an issue that has you so fired up that you'd like to share it with others? Then come to the Vashon Democratic Club meeting on Saturday, June 16, for our Political Open Mike Night. All are welcome! You'll have three minutes to make your case, vent your spleen, or just have your say, after which others will have a brief opportunity to comment on what you said. If there is time, we'll return to those topics that really engaged people's interest and discuss them further. We'll have seating arranged in a circle, so you won't have to stand in front of an audience. With all the hot political topics churning today, both locally and globally, there should be no shortage of lively discussion. Please join us! We meet in the Land Trust building: potluck social at 6:00, meeting 6:30-8:30. Please help us accomplish our goal of a no-trash potluck by bringing your own, non-disposable dinnerware! For more information, call Roger Fulton at 669-9459.

Candidates Square Off

Agenda with final candidate filings now posted!
Our June 13 meeting will be one of the highlights of the year - our candidate forum.
Please plan to come early and stay late. We will be meeting and questioning a lot of candidates for county, city, school district, and special district offices. We want to give everyone a fair shake, and we want them to respect us and our process.
We do not, and will not, issue invitations to candidates. Almost all of them have contacted us already. If you know of any candidates who you think might not be aware that we are having this forum, then by all means contact them and let them know. We figure that if they are savvy enough to run for office around here, they are savvy enough to seek out organizations whose help they might value.

Candidates' Forum - Front Page News in the West Seattle Herald
by Tim St. Clair
Ever vote for a candidate who is not a Democrat?
The 34th District Democrats' candidate's forum is always two events in one. There's the parade of candidates with each getting a few minutes at the microphone to convince the assembled group why they ought to be the Democrats' nominee.
The 34th District Democrats often meet at The Hall at Fauntleroy, where there's also a constant hubbub in the back of the room from people exchanging political gossip, arguing the issues of the day, analyzing strategy and updating friends about the kids. The Democrats had a potluck dinner prior to the forum so they were relaxed and convivial.
