Several 34th District members, led by Chair Ivan Weiss, not only attended the King

Garden Party! Friday, August 25th
Buy a condo in Barcelona (Spain, that is)! Or lunch with Mayor Greg Nickels! Or a
sailboat cruise! Our annual Garden party is scheduled for 6:00 - 9:00 PM August 25th at
the West Seattle Nursery. Click the logo for details.
We still need donated items for the auction (click here for a donation form as a Word document) and volunteer help for the party. Our chair
this year is Maggie Larrick. Contact her via e-mail or phone - see
the garden party page for contact information.

Cantwell for the primary election on September 17th. We also voted to:
oppose a King County proposition to create a new elected official -
an "Auditor" to oversee elections;
support creation of a public utility district on Vashon Island;
support State Initiative 937 (clean energy);
oppose Initiative 920 (Estate Tax rollback); and
oppose Initiative 933 which could force taxpayers to pay millions
of dollars to private landowners.
All endorsements as of August 9th are on the
Endorsements Page.

Candidates, We've Got Candidates!
And initiatives too! The August 9th meeting of the 34th Democrats is our endorsement meeting for the primary
election in September and general election in November. We've done a great job electing good Democrats in the past, so
we have just a few offices and maybe an initiative or two to consider for endorsement.
See the August letter from our Chair, Ivan Weiss, the August meeting agenda online, and
the pages on this website showing candidates for election and initiatives / referenda for more
information. For a detailed agenda of the endorsements meeting, click here (40kb PDF).

Walking the 15th!
We had a phenomenal canvassing event in the 15th District on Saturday, August 26th. From the 34th we had Tanya Aguilar, Ivan Weiss, Juan and Judy Aguilar, Richard Bartlett, Les Treal and Lucina Siguenza who made the road trip. We met up with Tania Maria Rosario, Carlos Lugo, Brian Iwakiri, and Graciela Villanueva and knocked on almost 200 doors in Grandview and Granger and were able to do voter ID on 67 infrequent voters. Nine out of ten people we spoke with identified as Democrats, supported Maria Cantwell and Tomas Villanueva and were very happy to see us. Many said it was the first time a Democrat had ever knocked on their door. What a great opportunity to support our fellow Democrats in the 15th District! We will be planning another canvassing road trip in the 15th District in the near future. Call or e-mail Tanya Aguilar if you are interested at 206-293-9613.

15th Legislative District Picnic
This is just a reminder and call for volunteers for the sister district
canvassing trip that the 34th will be making on Saturday August 26th. We
will join members from the 15th District Dems and Latino Vote Project
volunteers from both sides of the mountains for a day of canvassing in
Sunnyside, Toppenish and Wapato.
Members of the 34th can meet in the
Safeway parking lot on Roxbury in White Center at 8:00 am on Saturday
morning. After the canvassing we'll celebrate at the 15th District picnic
in Zillah and then head home on Saturday night.
Please contact Tanya
Aguilar at 206-293-9613 or taguilar11@msn.com if you can come and please
also note if you can drive. I will have my parents' van and hopefully we'll
need at least another car to drive all the dedicated volunteers to help
their sister district. Let's give our sister district our support and help
make Washington a completely Blue state!
