Saturday, March 200, 2004 Land Trust Building VASHON ISLAND DEMOCRATIC CLUB meeting The meeting was called to order at 7:22pm by vice-president Bill Buehl in absence of the president. Nine people attended (none of us were happy with THAT - ivan).

Announcement:
Webhost Dan Schueler will post information about the more accessible club website "www.vashondems.org" when it is ready. Roger Fulton will send out press releases. (the site is operational but remains, as all good Web sites do, a work in progress. Comments welcome to Dan Schueler mailto:dans@islandimage.net - ivan).

New Business
SNOW tabled.
Discussion about club endorsement of SNOW (Sound Non-violent Opposition to War) coalition, a non-partisan coalition of local groups agreeing to a set of points opposing war. Arguments were presented both pro and con. Too few people were present to allow a meaningful vote. More information is available via e-mail. Item was tabled.

Report on 34th District meeting by Ivan Weiss accepted Ivan has sent his full report to members via e-mail. He highlighted two items. First is that the district treasury currently holds about $14,000. The district plans to spend that money locally to support Democratic candidates including Kerry. He also announced that Jo Johnson has taken the chair position for outreach. An example of the kind of work that committee does is coordination and cross referencing with the Backbone Campaign.

Buttons
Dan Schueler announced that VIDC can share use of a button maker with the Backbone Campaign. This machine could be used to make buttons for fundraisers, including Strawberry Festival. The Club will be responsible for covering cost of the materials: approximately $100 per 1000 buttons.

Old Business
Bumperstickers passed unanimously Boo Dinan-Slack stated that her informal agreement with the state committee when they sent us bumper stickers to sell was that we would return 20% of the proceeds. A motion to return 20% of bumper sticker sales proceeds to the state Democratic committee was moved by Beryl Bucklin and seconded by Roger Fulton. Motion carried unanimously.

Platform must be voted on at April meeting Member participation for posting of further items in the platform the Club will submit to the District/State will be available on the vashondems.org site. These items can include local and state issues for submission the WA state platform. Robin Hess is platform delegate from VIDC and the 34th district. Dan Schueler is alternate.

Strawberry Festival
Boo Dinan-Slack will sign up the Club for a booth at the festival. We plan to sell bumper stickers, buttons and tee shirts. Volunteers needed for the festival and preparations. (y'all come - ivan)

Voter registration
By and at the April meeting we need to list volunteers willing to help register voters at the Saturday market.

Future meetings Unanimous
Boo Dinan Slack moved and Dan Schueler seconded a motion to hold future meetings at the Land Trust building starting with a pot luck social at 6pm and business meeting at 7pm. Unanimously passed.

Programs
Marilyn Omey reported that Phil Talmadge has consented to come in June and Ron Sims in July. Publicity and help in generating attendance in advance of the governor's race needs to be discussed further.

Announcement
Roger Fulton said that Howard Dean announced a web site and organization to help support local progressive candidates: www.DemocracyForAmerica.com

Meeting adjourned at 8:34pm
