Potluck Party: 7:00 PM

• Note room change: we'll be in the back room (Vashon Room) of the Hall at Fauntleroy
• Setup at 6:00 PM
• This is a potluck - the district will provide beer, wine and soft drinks and members will bring main dishes, side dishes, salads, breadsand desserts.

Sponsoring a family for the Holidays
The 34th District is sponsoring a family this holiday season, donating gifts for them to have a wonderful season. Tim Nuse, one of our vice-chairs, is coordinating this. Please check out the family's list and give what you can. Click here for the list and Tim's contact information (57kb PDF file).

Upcoming Meetings
• There will not be an executive board meeting in December
• January District meeting is on the 11th - Verlene Jones of the King County Labor Council is confirmed as our January speaker. She'll be expounding on why Labor's agenda is our agenda, and on how we can use Union organizing techniques to mobilize voters, win elections, and gain members.
• The complete calendar of meetings for 2006 is now posted here on the website.

Message From the Chair, December, 2005
We're coming to the end of a tumultuous year, and we deserve a break. Come and join us Wednesday, December 14, at 7 PM at the Hall at Fauntleroy for our annual 34th District Democrats Holiday Party.

Bring food. Bring drink. It's a potluck. Bring your kids and your grandkids. Bring a donation for the food banks.

We won't need to do any business. I might have a few welcoming remarks. If Congress has adjourned by then, our Ninth District U.S. Representative, Adam Smith, will be on hand to greet us, say a few words, and answer a few questions.

We have a relatively small presence in the Ninth District (17 precincts), but it has been vocal, as Democrats should be everywhere. Adam has meant to visit the 34th for some time now, so we look forward to welcoming him and his staff.

By now you probably have read of the denial of most of the Republican challenges to 1,944 registered voters in King County just before the recent election. A few observations on that:

First, a big round of applause and a heartfelt thank-you to County Councilman Dow Constantine for his work on the King County Elections Canvassing Board. It has taken long hours and meticulous attention to some very minute detail. I hope Dow will share some of his experiences with us.

Second, a reminder that this issue isn't going away anytime soon. The Republican agenda is in shreds in King County. Their candidates and their policies are discredited, and rightly so. They cannot prevail on the merit of their ideas, so they do what they do best- tear down, attack, trash, and attempt to denigrate- everything we stand for and fight for as Democrats.

We can expect then to persist in sliming Ron Sims, King County, and the Elections Bureau, under the guise of "voter roll integrity." Never mind that they aren't doing this in counties that are run by Republicans. Never mind that they wouldn't be crying "fraud" if their man Irons had won the election. If they just throw enough (slime) at the wall, they're hoping some of it will stick

They'll keep it up, and we have to keep ahead of them. Voter registration is what we do, and we want to maintain our voter rolls with accurate information that will withstand all such partisan challenges. So:.

• Make sure your own voter information, and that of all your family members, is up to date and accurate.
• If you get your mail at a post office box (Postal Service or private), there must be a physical address on file in addition.
• If you have moved, please update your address with King County Elections by calling 206-296-8683 (VOTE). Call them if you have any questions regarding your status.

We'll have more on this during the coming year, and plenty of information for you to take into your precincts.

For now, come party, have a great time, and let's gather our energy for the Democratic sweep of 2006.

Ivan Weiss, Chair, 34th District Democrats
