Forum Questions for Candidates
The 34th District Democrats will be holding a Candidates' Forum on October 24th, 6:30 to 9:30 PM at the Hall at Fauntleroy for Democrats who wish to be appointed to the House position. It will be moderated by Lucy Gaskill-Gaddis, former Vice President of the League of Women Voters of Seattle.
All members are urged to submit questions to be asked of candidates either in the written questionairre or at the Forum. Submit those questions via e-mail to the webmaster. Questions will be posted to this page, generally within 48 hours.

32.   Should you be elected, would you be able to work effectively with Republicans in the Legislature to attain bi-partisan consensus when it makes sense to do so? (Jennie Hodgson)
31.   Do you believe Washington should have the goal for all residents to have access to basic health care services? If so, what approaches would you support to achieve this goal? If not, why not? (Dan Jensen, PCO 34-1451)
30.   How will you try to address the budget shortfalls local governments have been dealt with in the wake of the passage of I-747? (Joe Fitzgibbon)
29.   If the Roads and Transit ballot measure fails this fall, will you fight to put another transportation measure before the voters in 2008? (Joe Fitzgibbon)
28.   Given that the Alaska Way Viaduct is rated an appalling 9 on the 100-point scale of structural integrity, and that the Mayor, KC Exec and Governor all pledged to work together toward a mutually supported solution, and that 55% of Seattle voters voted No to an Elevated highway, how are you going to work with other elected officials to ensure that a reasonable solution is reached quickly and earns public support? 27.   Since Gov. Gregoire has pledged that the Alaska Way Viaduct will be replaced -- one way or another -- within the next five years, and work could begin even sooner on SR 99 through SoDo and on the Spokane Street Viaduct, how will you work to maintain mobility and access for residents and business owners in the 34th District to Downtown and I-5? 26.   Joe was not just a supporter of marriage equality and LGBT rights in Olympia, he was one of our biggest advocates in the House. Will you commit to working with the LGBT community as an advocate for marriage equality and a sponsor of bills that move us toward that goal? (Michael Taylor-Judd)

24.   Do you support the right of all employees to engage in collective bargaining? If so, what have you done to demonstrate this, and will you sign on as co-sponsor of a card-check neutrality bill? (Rebecca Wells)

18.   In this state, auto theft is seen as a misdemeanor and charged as "joy riding" until the 7th time caught. Is this acceptable? (Joe Grande)
17.   It has been said if one stands on the street corner and counts the cars driving past, every 3rd vehicle has a driver with no insurance and every 5th vehicle has no or a suspended license. What can we do to lower these numbers? (Joe Grande)
16.   What is the difference, if any between marriage, civil unions, and domestic partnership? Which if any, are you willing to fight for same-sex couples? (Joe Grande)
15.   Are you aware the RCW's allow condo homeowners associations to forbid the flying of the American Flag, and showing of political signs? Should this be changed? (Joe Grande)
14.   What is your position on the Alaska Way Viaduct? Do you support a rebuild, replacement, a bridge similar to the Boston or Sydney Harbor Bridges, or another option you have envisioned? (Kathryn & Wendell Sprigg)
